1. What is the meaning of a stem cell?

A stem unit is a cell that is able to replace itself repeatedly to become cells of tissue of the body and practically any organ. Embryonic stem cells are cells extracted from the blastula, the very early embryo, that have an extraordinary ability to replicate in vitro, that is in a test tube, and become the part of any tissue. Adult stem cells are cells, after birth, found in an organism. Until recent times, it was thought that adult stem cells could formulate themselves as blood cells, bone and connective tissue only. But recent improvement in science, over the past 5 years, has revealed that adult stem cells have capabilities analogous to embryonic stem cells.

2. What is the Stem Cell Theory of Renewal?

The renewal theory of Stem Cell showed that stem cells are naturally released from the bone marrow and travel toward tissues, via the bloodstream, to promote the body's natural development of renewal. When an organ is undergone to a process that requires renewal, for instance, natural aging process, this organ releases compounds that activate the release of stem cells from the bone marrow. The organ also releases compounds that attract stem cells towards it. Then, the released stem cells follow due to concentration gradient of these compounds and leave the blood circulation to migrate to the organ where they propagate and differentiate into cells of this organ, supporting the natural renewal process.

3. Why do we hear much in the news about embryonic stem cells and very little about adult stem cells?

The first human embryonic stem cells were grown-up in vitro, in a petri dish, in the mid 90s. Quickly, scientists were doing well at budding them for many generations and to trigger their differentiation into nearly any kind of cells, like liver cells, brain cells, heart cells, bone cells, pancreatic cells, etc. When scientists tried growing adult stem cells, the attempt was less successful, because adult stem cells were difficult to grow in vitro for more than a few generations. The result was that embryonic stem cells have more potential as compared to adult stem cells. In addition to it, the moral concerns linked to the use of embryonic stem cells have led to a disproportionate depiction of embryonic stem cells in the media.

But recent science developments over the past 2-3 years have recognized that adult stem cells have the same capabilities as embryonic stem cells in the human body, not in the test tube. Detailed studies have indicated that simply releasing stem cells from the bone marrow can help support the natural process of body for renewal of organs and tissues.

4. What is the effect of StemEnhance ® ?

StemEnhance ® is a combination of two compounds extracted from the widely consumed aquatic botanical Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA). One extract, which have an L-selection ligand, chains the natural release of stem cells (CD34+ cells) from the bone marrow. The other extract, a polysaccharide-rich portion known as Migratose™, may support the journey of stem cells out of the blood into tissues.

5. What is the science behind StemEnhance ® ?

On stem cells, the effect of StemEnhance ® was tested in a double-blind, placebo restricted, cross over study. In short, volunteers rested for one hour before the first blood sample, which recognized the baseline level in the number of circulating stem cells. Volunteers were provided StemEnhance ® or placebo after the first blood samples. After that, blood samples were collected at 30, 60 and 120 minutes after eating the consumables. The number stem cells circulating in the blood were measured by analyzing the blood samples with the help of Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorting (FACS). The whole process was repeated again with again the volunteers switching groups. Hence, the volunteers who got StemEnhance ® got placebo too and visa versa. Since the research is blind and no one knows which is placebo and which is StemEnhance ®. Not even the scientists doing the study know about it. Taking StemEnhance ® kick started a prominent 25% boost in the number of circulating stem cells.

6. What is the recommended amount of StemEnhance® to take?

One gram or 2 capsules of StemEnhance ® are enough to improve the natural release of stem cells. According to a recent published scientific study, this release resultantly causes to augment the number of circulating stem cells by almost 25%. Therefore, the recommended amount to take is 2 capsules one or two times a day.

7. Can StemEnhance deplete the bone marrow? Do we have a finite number of stem cells?

Not at all! StemEnhance ® is not going to harm or deplete the bone marrow. The bone marrow generates stem cells continuously for the whole life of a person. The main responsibility of stem cells in the body, released by the bone marrow, includes the constant renewal of red blood cells and lymphocytes (immune cells).

A 25-30% raise in the quantity of circulating stem cells is good within physiological range. Also, it does not cause any strain on the bone marrow environment. The quantity of active bone marrow amounts near about 2,600 g or 5.7 lbs, with almost 1.5 trillion marrow cells. A 25-30% boost in the quantity of circulating stem cells, released with just 1 gram of StemEnhance ® consumption, corresponds to near about 3 million cells. This is just a tiny part of the stem cells available in the bone marrow. The amazing fact is that the Stem cells that do not utilize in any of the tissue or become blood cells return to the bone marrow.

8. What happened to stem cells if they do not reach a tissue?

Some stem cells released from the bone marrow remain unable to reach a tissue or blood cell. They are not wasted, rather hey go back to the bone marrow after some time.

9. Can stem cells lead to aberrations such as cancer?

Just embryonic stem cells have been linked with the production of unusual growth. Stem cells available in specialized tissues like the intestinal mucosa can also play an important role in the production of aberrant growth. However, stem cells released from the bone have not been linked with the problems of this kind.

11. Why does the label say for people on anticoagulants to consult their physician prior to taking StemEnhance ® and what information does their physician need?

This topic is relevant to the anticoagulant medication known as Coumadin™ or Warfarin. People on warfarin are generally advised by their physician to give special attention to the quantity of vitamin K in their daily diet. Like many foods, StemEnhance® also comprises of naturally producing vitamin K. For that reason, if you take StemEnhance, it would be just same as having a meal with vitamin K, such as broccoli or spinach. You can take 80 mcgs of vitamin K, which is its Recommended Daily Allowance. Just tell your physician that 2 capsules of StemEnhance can provide you almost 40 mcgs of vitamin K, which is ½, the RDA of vitamin K you require. For example, comparing a cup of broccoli to other foods; one cup of raw and chopped broccoli has “about” 110% of the RDA (or 88 mcg) of vitamin K. Just ½ cup of fresh and boiled spinach provides almost 560% of the RDA (or 3,584 mcgs) of vitamin K.

14. How does an increase in the number of circulating stem cells lead to optimal health?

Circulating stem cells can reach various organs and become cells of that organ, helping such organ regain and maintain optimal health. Recent studies have suggested that the number of circulating stem cells is a key factor; the higher the number of circulating stem cells the greater is the ability of the body at healing itself.

15. What is the optimum way of taking StemEnhance ® capsules?

StemEnhance ® can be taken with or without food, though some people at times experience some heaviness when taken on an empty stomach. The same experience has been reported when taken with an acidic juice like orange juice. Otherwise, StemEnhance can be taken with any fruit or vegetable juice, or with water.

In our studies, StemEnhance ® was always taken in the morning. However, it is quite possible that StemEnhance ® might bring greater benefits when taken before sleep, as the body tends to regenerate better during sleep. This being said, this remains to be studied. At this point, with the data available, the best way to take StemEnhance ® is to take 2 capsules once or twice a day, in the morning or morning and evening. .

20. How is StemEnhance ® different from whole AFA?

Whole AFA has been used for more than two decades with a very good track record of safety and health benefits. Whole AFA has been used as a natural anti-inflammatory product, to support the immune system, and to improve mental clarity and mental energy. Over the past few years StemTech's scientific team has isolated and identified the various components in AFA responsible for the various health benefits of AFA. In brief, AFA has been found to contain phenylethylamine (PEA) responsible for providing a feeling of mental energy, phycocyanin responsible for the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, a polysaccharide responsible for supporting the immune system, and most recently an L-selectin ligand responsible for supporting the release of stem cells from the bone marrow.

StemEnhance is a 5:1 concentrate of AFA that concentrates the four compounds listed above. It is specifically designed and developed to support stem cell physiology, but it also concentrates other compounds unique to AFA, bringing unique support for the whole body.

24. Does StemEnhance ® contain iodine?

Most people think that all algae are a significant source of iodine. This is not the case with the freshwater algae Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA). The Recommended Daily Allowance of iodine is 150 mcg. AFA has an extremely small amount of iodine, only 0.39 mcg per gram. Marine algae and seaweed by contrast are significant sources of iodine. For example one gram of Kelp of the species Laminaria digitata contains approximately 5000 mcg of iodine. Iodized salt contains 100 mcg per gram and one teaspoon of iodized salt contains 400 mcg of iodine. Other examples of foods that contain iodine are one slice of bread has about 6 mcg and one medium egg has 14 mcg of iodine.
